Colorado FF Photographer - Angus Drummond

Being a Colorado guy and loving great fly fishing related photographs of Colorado, it was nice to see a new site with lots of Colorado photography - plus, I recognize a few of these places. I have taken pics of some of these places as well and they never seem to do their beauty justice (ie, my pics suck) - Angus' photos on the other hand, do a great job of showing these amazing places in a photograph (although nothing is as good as actually being there - but these photos are pretty close).

Daytrippin' Utah Style

Great video out there on Vimeo by Ian & Neil Provo - amazing stuff with a Canon 5D2 DSLR. Love the crispness of the video and the stills - great software work on putting it all together and adding effects. Cool stuff.

Fisherman Style from Ian Provo on Vimeo.

I wish I had a buddy who was this photo-taking inclined and wouldn't just leave the camera in the bag and fish all day.....

HDR Photography

Flickr truly is an amazing place of some very very talented photographers. I love HDR photography - and wish I had a good camera that takes different exposures manually - but I'm a point and shoot guy. Of course being damn good at PhotoShop helps too.

It is very difficult to get a good HDR photo from shots of a trout - because you need to hold it still long enough to get 2 or more different exposure photos, but if anyone finds one, email the link!

Wow, just wow. Take a look at his website and you will be in awe of some of these images. I have no idea how he does these photos, but they are pretty amazing.

Brown Trout Lover

If you search around long enough you are bound to find some cool photos on Flickr.

Localwaters801 is a hell of a fisherman (by the looks of it) and a hell of a photographer (by the looks of it) - oh, and he has a little crush on the Brownie...some very big brownies. We need to find out where this guy is fishing and hang out with him! (Hint hint - the White River)

Great photos, and I hope you don't mind that I linked to your work!!

He ties some mean (and pretty) flies too - I needed a little fly porn!!

MidCurrent Photos

MidCurrent has some of the best fly fishing photos on the web - check it out and pass it along.

My favorite is the Bighorn in Winter pic by Tim Romano. I have lived that picture, but never from that angle.

Lots of good pictures and some amazing photographers - tons of pics and links on that page, so check them out.

High Dynamic Range Photography

I've been a big fan of HDR photography since the first time I saw some pics of Fenway Park on Flickr that were HDR.

The best way to describe an HDR image is to take 3 to 5 pictures of the same exact photo using 3 to 5 different exposure levels. Then, you use Photoshop (or other photo design software) to enhance the photo and take the best parts of all the photos and combine into one beautiful photo. There are thousands of HDR photos on Flickr and the web of virtually every landscape.

Gizmodo has published a nice little article explaining exactly what HDR is and how to create your own HDR image. This tutorial is simple and walks you through each step using Photoshop CS2 or higher.

As a fly fisherman and outdoor guy, there are millions of opportunities to photgraph amazing vistas, animals, nature scenes, etc - and what better way to capture them than in HDR format. The pictures are even better printed out and displayed - the colors and brightness jump off the page and you will be sure to get several comments/compliments on them.

Here are some cool examples of fishing/Colorado pictures in HDR:

DSLR Photography - Lenses

Gizmodo's - Why lenses are the real key to stunning photos. I am posting this link to have it on file when I need to look at - I don't understand DSLR's (or good photography for that matter), but I want to get one and learn how to take better pictures.

I need to find time (and money) to learn about DSLRs and eventually get myself a nice camera. I have talked a few times with my buddies Ryan and Charlie, who have both been paid for their pictures, but I need to take it more seriously.
